Tata is anything but emerging. Sure, the cars are new, but they've been making quality trucks for years and pretty much own the Indian market. Very popular in the Punjab as you can see:

Seriously though, I've been watching Tata for a while as a potential long-term buy. My reasons have less to do with exports than with the domestic market where the car is concerned. The Tata Nano represents a huge step up in personal safety (as anyone who's ever ridden a motorcycle in urban India with their wife, two kids and shopping on the back will tell you) and at a price point that's becoming more and more affordable as urban incomes rise. Nanos save lives. This is embedded in Indian reality, and you just don't get better advertising than that.

As for the trucks, those I see as a potential major export to developing nations. The design is perfect for operating in harsh conditions where wages are low and cargos are small. I don't see anything in their class that competes effectively with them.

Now, that's just the motor company. I've yet to look into their other operations, but Tata is a major player in India and abroad, that much is clear. Definitely something to keep on the radar.
