I grew up with a lot of oldtimers that lived during the depression years ... that would go to the liquor store on xmas eve to get wooden boxes to burn for heat ... they taught me well to abhor debt ... but propserity makes memories short ... it is a good time for anyone who hasn't, to read Pierre Berton's The Great Depression.
When you consider that so many factories have had to scale back and are running below capacity or have closed, and that by 2006, the United States had 10 times as much retail space per person as France. This was the bubble phase of a boom in consumer credit that began in 1945.
Call me a pessimist or an alarmist ... I had no fear of y2k NONE, the current economic crisis and the insane beahviour of Gov't esp the US will make the great depression look like a warm up for the great devestation.
