A CBC Radio report this morning from Haiti pointed out that with the complete collapse of government services in the wake of the quake there are already signs of community organization to get water supply, food distribution and education services back on track. This seems to be in stark contrast to New Orleans after the hurricane where people sat back and bitched about lack of gevernment action. One can hope that 17% unemployment and widespread housing foreclosures will re-awake an attitude of community activism in the USA.
