I use KMYMONEY to keep track of my transactions. It is free money management software similar to what MSMONEY used to be but better.

The one drawback is the windows version is only beta and does not work well so you will need Linux - I use UBUNTU - It can be run stand alone or on windows 7 under a virtual machine (Virtual Box is free) or windows 7 professional has one built in.

It does not have a capital gains report yet (It's on the list) but I can easily find when I made purchases and sales from the other reports.

This is a bit technical and I don't know how proficient you are with computers but I thought I should put it out there as an option.
