I do believe that this incident was investigated. The rent payed at the co=op where they lived whilst he was in the Rae Provincial gov't was based on income, so they paid the full shot. Apparently it was an attempt to get closer to the Hoi Polloi, or so they claimed.

The point was, while they were living there someone more deserving was denied that opportunity. The National Post made hay with this for a time. Possibly it hasn't been brought up because it would open up a whole can of worms (snakes) and too many politicians of all stripes would get their collective a$$e$ bitten.

I do remember seeing written fairly recently in, I believe, "Our National Newspaper" that an reporter queried Olivia Chow why both she and Layton were claiming allowances for their second home in Ottawa when they were living together.

She snapped, " it's legal" and walked away.
