All I need is the power of executive decree. You trust me, right?
OK, here we go....
1. Term Limits: No politician may serve more than two consecutive terms. You lose a few good people, but they can come back in four years if the public still wants them. Price you pay for eliminating entrenched encumbents.
2. Campaign Finance: All candidates who collect enough signatures are entitled to campaign funding from a common pool of tax dollars. Everyone gets the same amount to spend as they see fit. Private or corporate contibutions are forbidden, in fact I'd make them a felony punishable by 20 years. If you want to donate your time (collecting signatures, putting up signs etc.) then fine, but let the merits of the platform, not the amount of money behind it determine the outcome.
3. No appointments to the Supreme Court and NO lifetime tenure. Judges to be ELECTED from a pool of candidates who must serve no less than ten years in practice, five of which must be as a defense attorney. Manadatory retirement at 70.
4. Restoration of Glass-Steagal with no cross-ownership of investment and commercial banking allowed, and absolutely no government insurance on the investment side.
5. Exile of all present investment bankers to the Aleutian Islands.
There. Fixed.
