Ecuador Postpones Election Results
Quito, Oct 11 (Prensa Latina) The official results of the Ecuadorian elections for the Constituent Assembly will be announced on October 20, Rene Mauge, vice president of the Supreme Electoral Court confirmed Thursday, because provincial courts needed more time for vote counting.
Mauge said electoral courts in Pichincha, Guayas, Manabi and Los Rios provinces asked for an extension of Wednesday's deadline for counting the votes for national and provincial candidates.
According to the program approved April 15, the Constituent Assembly will start 10 days after the final results are definitely proclaimed.
As of now, 36,710 voting documents have been counted of a total 37,656, which represents 97.49 percent of the total. Governmental movement Alianza Pais is in first place, with 69.61 percent of the votes.
Alianza Pais is followed by political parties Sociedad Patriotica (7.30 percent), Renovador Institucional (6.57 percent) and the Social Democrat Party (3.8 percent).
Red Democratica has 2 percent of the votes, the Popular Democratic Movement has 1.68 percent, and rightwing organization Uno has 1.11 percent.
Other center-left, rightwing and social groups do not reach 1 percent of the votes.
