AP has finally picked a fight it can't win.

Ecuador's bus system has been the subject of criticism for a number of reasons, not the least of which is safety. Never one to miss an opportunity to correct something the way they see fit, AP has come up with a bunch of new rules, including a concession system for awarding routes to various carriers, who at present compete with each other.

You can imagine how well that's gone over. Already they've threatened to strike, and AP has done some serious backing off in the last few days. And with good reason. Imagine how popular they'd be if they provoke a national bus strike in a country where few people own a car?

I don't know how likely that is, but this could be the first serious test of how far they can push before someone starts to push back.
