On top of this there has been no big sell-off. If the institutions knew this was a big issue the share price would sink like a stone

I've been watching the vol like a hawk - as you said if there was something negative brewing the instos would be the first to know and be moving shares.  So far low vol.

Still though a little voice keeps nagging at me that not all is right.
