The latest editorial from el Comercio speaks about a Geological Fault which has opened up between the executive and the assembly. There's no mistaking the meaning implied by "geological."

It is now clear to everyone that these people shouldn't be in charge of a lemonade stand on a hot day. The proof of this is their utter ignorance of international treaties and basic contract law. Correa had to get rid of them, but he couldn't act directly so he walked them into a trap.

Expect a well orchestrated mini-crisis, recriminations all around, followed by a panel of Correa appointed jurists to straighten out the mess.
