This certainly is not what we have been hearing from the President’s office or the Ministry (majority stake in projects). On Tuesday Serrano repeated that the state mining company will not be looking to be involved in private sector projects. It may be that Acosta (or the reporter) is confusing revenues to the government with control. The government is certainly looking to keep overall about 50% of revenues in the country, including all taxes, royalties, duties, etc., which is line with international norms. Recall also that Mr. Acosta is from the more extreme element in Correa’s party. We are doing our best to get to the bottom of this. That’s about all I can say for now.
