IAPA condemns murder of news director of Radio Sucre

The Inter American Press Association (IAPA) today condemned the assassination of journalist Raul Rodriguez Colonel in Guayaquil and urged the authorities of that country to bring to justice those responsible for the crime.
Colonel Rodriguez, news director of Radio Sucre Guayaquil, died this morning, victim of an attack by people who have not yet been identified.
Apparently, the journalist was shot in his car after being intercepted as he left his home in the town of Guayacanes, north of the city, and was transferred to the emergency clinic Kennedy, where he died shortly after being admitted.
Gonzalo Marroquin, chairman of the Committee on Freedom of Press and Information of the IAPA condemned the fact and asked the authorities for "a rapid and effective investigation to punish those responsible."
"The efficiency of the authorities should help dispell an atmosphere of anxiety among the journalistic community that further restricts press freedom, so damaged by this attack," said MarroquĂn.
