Quito, July 1, 2008 .- The Minister of Mines and Petroleum, Galo Chiriboga, announced that the draft Mining Law aims to return to the State the power to control this activity and quarrying, which is not provided for in current legislation.

Chiriboga said that the draft Act provides greater control and demands to be met by mining companies wishing to operate in the country because they are looking for that activity is carried out amicably with the environment.

The Secretary of State stated that the proposal, which was presented to President Rafael Correa on Friday June 27, also provides royalties to the state, as well as the economic participation of communities where mining projects.

"It incorporates all the richness of the nine miners dialogues, conducted since last April," said the minister Chiriboga, who explained that the proposed amending the existing mining contracts, which defines the obligations of companies and the State .

He recalled that in dialogues miners participated sectional representatives of governments, professional associations, chambers of mining large and small, environmentalists and representatives of education.
