Ecuador's Jan-Feb Tax Collections $892.3 Million; +23% On Year

QUITO -(Dow Jones)- Ecuador's tax collections rose 23% to $892.30 million between January and February from $728.06 million in the same period of 2007, the Internal Revenue Service, or SRI, said Wednesday.
In a news release, the SRI said in the first two months, collections from the value-added tax reached $499.76 million, up 9% from $459.44 million a year earlier.
Income-tax collection reached $272.20 million, up 58% from $172.45 million in the same period of 2007.
The consumption tax collected between January and February amounted to $91.75 million, up 17% from $78.66 million a year ago.
Other taxes totaled $28.59 million between January and February, SRI said.
According to SRI, Ecuador's February tax collections rose 12% to $334.83 million from $297.98 million in the same month of last year.
In February, collections from the value-added tax fell 5% to $182.78 million from $193.12 million a year ago.
Income-tax collection reached $106.09 million, up 72% from $61.86 million in the same month of 2007.
The consumption tax collected in February amounted to $29.59 million, down 15% from $34.99 million a year ago.
Ecuador's tax collections rose 14% to $5.14 billion last year from $4.52 billion in 2006.
Ecuador hopes to collect $5.53 billion in taxes this year.
