Attention Business/Financial Editors:
MONTREAL, Feb. 23 /CNW Telbec/ - Blue Note Mining Inc. ("Blue Note") reports assay results from a further nine holes drilled during its 2008 exploration program on its Williams Brook property located close to its Caribou Mine near Bathurst, New Brunswick. Drill hole WB-08-12 returned 0.6 meters assaying 2.28 grams of gold per tonne. The gold mineralization was intersected at a vertical depth of approximately 39 meters. True width of this mineralized intersection is not known. The hole was collared approximately 100 meters north of hole WB-08-11 which returned 11.16 g/t gold over 2.8 meters (see news release of December 10, 2008), and is also proximal to an earlier float sample that assayed 28 grams gold per tonne as well as trench grab samples that assayed 3.5 and 14 grams gold per tonne. Correlation of the high grade occurrences has not been determined and multiple gold-bearing veins are thought to exist. Drill Hole WB-08-15 returned a 0.4 meter interval at a vertical depth of 15 meters, assaying 1.63 grams of gold per tonne. True width of this mineralized intersection is not known. This hole, and hole WB-08-16 which assayed 0.35 grams of gold per tonne over 1.0 meter are located in the same vicinity were an earlier trench grab sample returned 1.0 grams of gold per tonne. Final analytical results are shown in Table 1 and drill hole collar locations and orientation are included in Table 2. The 2008 drill program and earlier prospecting and trenching has been successful in identifying numerous gold occurrences over an area approximately 1,200 x 600 meters with significant gold grade (i.e. up to 11.16 g/t gold over 2.8 meters in WB-08-11) and significant widths (up to 25.0 meters estimated true width in WB-08-03) at shallow depths. Two types of gold mineralization have been identified on the property. The first type of gold mineralization is associated with disseminated pyrite in pink potassic-altered rhyolite. This type of mineralization has been found in two broad sub-parallel northeast-southwest trending zones, which have been interpreted using induced polarization and soil geochemical surveys, trenching and diamond drilling, and measured over horizontal widths that exceed 20 meters. The second type of gold mineralization has returned the highest gold values, including those found in hole WB-08-11. This gold mineralization is observed in quartz veins and heavily quartz veined rhyolite that contains variable concentrations of disseminated or blebs of pyrite and local sphalerite and galena. The orientation of the gold-bearing quartz veins has not been determined from diamond drilling and conditions in the trenches, including highly fractured bedrock, precluded productive structural interpretation. Blue Note Exploration Manager, Art Hamilton stated that "the thickness of the gold-bearing alteration zones and identification of numerous gold occurrences indicate the presence of a robust mineralizing system and quartz veined zones with grades up to 24.1 g/t gold underscore the excellent potential for economic gold mineralization on the Williams Brook Property". << Table 1. Samples were analyzed at the Activation Laboratories Ltd. facility in Ancaster, ON by Neutron Activation (INAA) and fire assay (FA). Samples reported from hole WB-08-11 were analyzed by fire assay - metallic screen - gravimetric finish method Since late November 2008, Blue Note has significantly increased the size of the Williams Brook project by acquiring through map staking an additional 1,882 mineral claims covering more than 400 square kilometres. The objective of the new staking was to secure the immediate area surrounding the Williams Brook property and to follow up significant geochemical gold anomalies located north of the property as identified by a 1987 regional till survey. Blue Note's Williams Brook and Regional Gold properties now comprise 1,994 claims covering 427 square kilometres. The 2009 exploration program will concentrate on the immediate area of the discovery. Mechanical overburden stripping to expose the underlying bedrock will be conducted followed by detail mapping and sampling. A drilling program totalling more than 6,000 metres is planned to follow-up on the high-grade gold mineralization outlined in last year's drilling campaign. Reconnaissance and detailed till geochemical surveys are planned on the newly staked ground near Williams Brook to investigate the source of significant gold anomalies identified in a regional till geochemical survey released in 1987. Favourable anomalies will be followed up with ground geophysical surveys to define targets for trenching and/or diamond drilling. The regional till geochemical survey released in 1987 under the Canada-New Brunswick Mineral Development Agreement (MDA) outlined impressive gold anomalies of up to 628 ppb Au to the north of the Williams Brook property. These results were subsequently found to be difficult to replicate by New Brunswick Government and industry geologists potentially due to the difficulty in replicating particulate gold assays due to the nugget effect. However, local work has substantiated the presence of high gold anomalies identified in the till survey and Blue Note geologists believe that the impressive geochemical anomalies outlined in the 1987 till survey may be indicative of significant and widespread gold mineralization and warrant a thorough examination.
