Bruce Power, which is jointly owned by TransCanada, Cameco Corp. (TSX:CCO.TO - News), and several pension plans, is claiming the delay was beyond its control and shouldn't result in a penalty for missing an contractual deadline.
TransCanada said Thursday that if the Ontario Power Authority accepts the force majeure claim, Bruce Power will continue to receive its contracted rates for power after July 1.
Bruce Power suffered a setback in May when damage to some non-nuclear equipment forced a delay in reconnecting the refurbished Unit 2 to the provincial power grid.
TransCanada issued a statement Thursday saying Bruce Power has the materials need to complete the repairs and that work is currently underway.
"We expect that an updated restart timeframe for Unit 2 will be made in the coming weeks," TransCanada said.
Bruce Power said earlier this month that Bruce A's Unit 3 has been returned to service after an $300 million overhaul that started last November. A refurbished Unit 1 is expected to return to service in the third quarter.
