From Stockwatch:
Int'l Speculator says Canplats not a buy here
2008-03-10 20:02 ET - In the News
The International Speculator in its March 3, 2008, issue, says buy Canplats Resources Corp. at $3.50, officially and lukewarmly, "Buy under C$3.00." Such lukewarm nods usually leave investors thinking that if the newsletter does not like it here, it is probably not worth it 10 per cent cheaper either, so it is an insincere buy that really means hold. This is the newsletter's second go-round with the stock. The Speculator said buy in April, 2004, at a devilishly cheap 58 cents and in April, 2005, at and even better 30 cents. It then said sell at a cry-in-your-milk 16.5 cents on July 1, 2005. Assuming an investment of $1,000 for each of the two buys, the sell yielded a loss of $1,191. Bygones are bygones, and even though the Speculator's Canplats transactions may keep the writer up at nights, these things happen. With instructions to buy under $3, the writer can hardly claim to have rekindled his love for the stock. The writer notes that Canplats is the sister company of Speculator favourite, Silver Standard Resources Inc. ($36). He nods his head respectfully to Silver Standard's Robert Quartermain. "Bob's involvement is enough, for us," the writer coos, adding, "These people know what they are doing." Canplats has precious and base metals projects in Mexico. The priority is Camino Rojo, a gold-silver-lead-zinc discovery.
