Canada Stocks Close Lower; Most Sectors Down; Carpathian Gold Most Active;

Canada stocks closed lower Tuesday as traders took profits in most sectors. This pullback comes despite the fact that the top six most actively traded stocks were all higher.

Mostly actively traded was Carpathian Gold Inc. (CPN.TO) which announced Monday that SUPRAM, the state environmental agency, has reinstated the provisional operating license for the RDM gold project which is owned and operated by the corporation's wholly-owned subsidiary in Brazil.

In today's company news, BlackBerry Ltd. (BB.TO) gained after CEO John Chen said he'd eventually consider spinning off or selling the smartphone maker's BlackBerry Messenger instant-messaging service once he's built it into a more formidable competitor, according to a Bloomberg report. In other news, Blackberry will reportedly release a low-cost phone in Indonesia in April. It also announced new enterprise solutions, partnerships and smartphone models to "enable enterprises and individuals to maximize their productivity, communication and collaboration."
