Champion Minerals Announces Appointment of Jean-Luc Chouinard as Director of Projects (ccnm)

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - May 16, 2011) - Champion Minerals Inc. ("Champion Minerals" or the "Company") (TSX:CHM)(FRANKFURT:P02) today announced the appointment of Mr. Jean-Luc Chouinard, P.Eng. to the role of Director of Projects for the Company, effective immediately. Mr. Chouinard will be based in Champion Minerals' Montreal, Quebec office.

Mr. Chouinard has over 30 years of progressive international mining and consulting experience in mine operation management, mine construction and project development, as well as several scoping and feasibility studies in the mining industry.

Mr. Chouinard worked on various engineering projects, on pre-feasibility and feasibility studies with Metchem and Roche Consulting Ltd. As a consultant through his firm Chouinard and Associates he worked for Barrick Gold Corporation and for Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd. on the scoping study of the Pinos Altos Project, the five-year plan and on a feasibility study of a crushing and conveying system at the Laronde Mine. Construction projects include, amongst others, the Essakane project for IAMGOLD Corporation, the Langlois Mine for Breakwater Resources Ltd., and an open-pit mine at Selbaie Mines.

Mr. Chouinard has worked at mine operations for Cominco Ltd. as the Superintendent of Mine Engineering at both the Kimberley and Snip operations and for the Glenbrook Nickel Company in Noumea, New Caledonia. He was the Chief Mining Engineer at Selbaie Mines, and the Mine Superintendant for Bema Gold Corporation at the Julietta Mine in Russia. He has also been General Manager at both the Sigma and Langlois mines.

Mr. Chouinard holds a Master of Science degree in Mining Engineering from Laval University, Quebec and he is a Professional Engineer registered in Quebec and British Columbia, Canada.
