The poster may also be thinking along the same line as an article I read awhile ago by Stacey Laliberte. You can read it at this link.

An excerpt from the article is below.
"Connacher also has a 10,000 barrel/ day refinery in Great Falls Montana. The refinery acts as a great hedge against wild swings in crude oil prices. If oil prices go down Connacher’s refinery profits go up. Similarly if prices go up Connacher realizes an increase in production revenues."
