As of yet there is no ban on "naked short sales" in Canada. In my opinon however, a lot of the action we saw today may well have been short covering due to concern that Canada will follow the US lead on short selling regulations. With oil up today about $3.50, it demonstrates the power of the institutional investors to overwhelm the market and make it behave the way they want it to. I hope Canada implements a ban on "naked shorting" and backs it up with meaningfully harsh penalties on the individual trader as well as the brokerage house the broker works for.

All around the world, the investment industry has become corrupt, pernicous and fraudulent thieves. All the way to the top of brokerage houses and perhaps the regulators themselves. Long past time to clean it up and enforce exacting standards of fairness backed up by srtict enforcement and massive fines as well as jail time when violated!
