Regardless of what people think in hindsight about the wisdom (or lack thereof) of spinning off PDP, and also of refraining from divesting when it was around $25/share in order to finance CLL, one fact remains:
Gusella didn't let go of this investment because he felt that the company was worth more. And he was able to convince others at the top to believe in the same. And all along, they have admitted that Argentina was just a stepping stone and it was the other South American properties that they truly believed to have the giant potential.
They've seen the seismic data. Although the drilling is of course a gamble, it is an educated gamble. People have said that "time will tell" whether or not holding onto PDP was a wise move. Well, that time is drawing near, and in a few weeks we will learn whether or not Gusella made the right choice.
For once, I am almost more interested in how PDP plays out over the next several months than I am in how CLL progresses.
