Though I am not sure whether internal combustion engines create less of a problem than many of the alternative energy forms, I agree completely that we will just trade one set of problems for another set of problems. In the long term there is only one justification for going to alternative forms of energy. Pure and simple, it is because there in the future will not be enough petroleum to provide for the worlds energy needs.
The proposals for "cap and tax" legislation is nothing more than a play for enormous tax increases on all peoples of the western world. As noted by the fact that China, India, Africa and the rest of the developing world refuse adamantly to implement such policys!
