They of course rape you in taxes when you withdraw..I believe they're similar to your 401K..The deadline for contributions is Mar 31 for the previous tax year. So January is the start of RRSP season..Canadians mostly invest in mutual funds, which is why you usually see a spike in small cap companies like CULL in Jan, Feb. Example CLL usually experiences the YTD low in Nov or early December. This allows fund mangers to make a killing shorting it down and bear market ETFS look good. Institutions then accumulate shares and manipulate CLL SP to new highs or close too it. Now this of course make the mutual funds holding CLL appear to have good solid growth which then entices investors looking to park their RRSP money into that fund..Once the RRSP deadline ends, which is conveniently when companies start reporting first quarter earnings, CLL SP tanks through the summer until it's manipulated up to a new YTD high prior to being shorted down to the YTD low in Nov..Predictible cycle.Now multiply this by hundreds of companies.Good thing is that YTD lows usually gain about 22%. So IMO this November CLL SP will be shorted down to about $1.34 after reaching a new high of about $2.33
