My understanding is that there are different levels of bankruptcy in the U.S. I would prefer the Government to let the Automakers file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy so they can reorganize and renogotiate union contracts and legacy costs..Chapter 7, which is liquidation, shouldn't be necessary.. Also under chapter 11 there would be some job losses as productivity ( making employees multi task) and outsourcing will be negotiated. Also other manufacturers may buy any plants that are closed keeping some jobs. Job losses could also be negated if their production is repatriated to the U.S,, which would suck for Canada.
In Canada, I'm guessing that any plants that close will be bought by Foreign companies such as Hyundai that want to expand into Canada.
