"Governments can't have it both ways..You can't push to lower consumption then cry about losing tax revenues. Kind of like Cigs.. Don't feel bad, one U.S State, I can't recall which one, wants to get rid of gas taxes all together. So they plan to put GPS units in every car and charge people taxes per mile travelled. When you fill up, the pump reads your GPS then adds a distance tax to your bill. Now of course the environmentalists are complaining saying that it's unfair as someone driving a Prious would pay the same tax as someone driving an Escalade..What's really scary about this is that the government knows where you go and when you do it. EVEN scarier YOUR SPOUSE can track you."
Have you heard about Google's new people tracker? I saw it on the news last night, I believe the technology is called Latitude, and allows for cell phone tracking. They say privacy can be controlled, but we all know this is where it starts.
I've always wondered why overhead tolling programs such as Illinois' I-Pass aren't used to generate speeding tickets. Same with the Ohio and Pennsylvania turnpikes, where you pick up a toll pass getting on, and pay it when getting off. You know it's coming some day.
You're spot-on regarding funds being misdirected. I don't trust government at all anymore. From social security to tollways to lottery, the money doesn't go where it's supposed to. I read an article about social security (National Ponzi Scheme by Walter E. Williams) the other day that would blow you away, but you're in Canada and it's a whole 'nother bag of worms.
So you wouldn't want your spouse tracking you? LOLOLOL
