I found something related to walla123's post of 08/24 "Cinopec(?) the chinese national company announced plans to spend 17B over the next couple of years on acquisition - and cll was mentioned as a possible target."

This doesn't mention Connacher at all, but possibly bnn associated Connacher with this story over at Bloomberg: Sinopec to Boost Overseas Expansion as Profit Surges of the same date.
