Generally when the 50 day MA cross the 200 day MA it is regarded to be a bullish signal, although TA is never a guarantee.
While it might be a tool (for some) to help formulate opinions Im not personally convinced it isnt still chance. Not all stocks will follow the same trend, and its hard to use past results as indicators of the future in my eyes. The market changes, the companies change etc etc.
In my eyes its still best to look at the fundamentals of any company, see if its undervalued (or not if it has good forward looking prospects), make your decision and hold on for the ride.
CUU is anomalous in the world of stocks, it really does have a mind of its own as I think a number of longs on this board could attest to. TA doesnt factor in for things such as our high inside ownership. It also doesnt factor in things such as CUU's true value. I think half the reason CUU is still down at these levels when it should be higher is that no one can say for certain what Teck will do. Will they take 20,40 or 75? Will they walk away? The more they leave us the more we will make, although I think its pretty safe to say they will take 75%. Seriously, for 260 million approximately just look what theyre picking up.
Theres never anything wrong with taking profit either if youre comfortable that youve made some good money. I had to sell some of my CUU at $2.69 as it made me back many times my original investment and gave me a nice chunk of change to invest in other juniors, and Im still holding whats left til the end.
Profit in the bank today is profit, everything in the world of stocks carries risk and is not guaranteed, so dont be afraid to take profit off the table if youre happy with what youve made. Ive known guys who do this and they always walk away ahead. Ive known guys who never do this and sometimes they make more then the guys who dont, but by and large in the long run holding out for maximum profit usually does backfire. Although I should add CUU is as close a thing to a guarantee as Ive ever seen in the world of juniors, and I would (at least on this stock) advocate holding for the buyout completely.
Point being, I think fundamental analysis is a far better way to look at ANY stock then a technical analysis. Just an opinion.
