I stake claims quite often. This is done over the internet. It is cheap to stake but more expensive to maintain them. But still cheap for a company like Teck. For a hundred bucks you can claim a couple hundred hectares. You then spend money exploring or pay a fee to instead of exploring. The initial claim is good for a year.
