This if from GMP's report on Teck's Q1 Earnings:

Over the quarter, “financial and investment in other assets” increased to $1.4 billion from $1.1 billion. Teck apparently kept purchasing stocks in market (Teck had purchased for $324mm of stocks in Q4/11 without revealing what they had purchased) but is still not saying what they are buying or whether it will become more than a short term investment over time. Media speculation says that Teck had been opportunistically buying shares of Fortescue Metals.
