I doubt it has any great bearing on the recent land grabs, but effective July 1, 2012 the Mineral Tenure Act amendments call for an increase in certain fees. I can't see this being a huge deal for Teck and their deep pockts, but then again, why not stake some large claims now that you are considering anyway and save some $ at the same time? Get in now and beat the rush.
Or maybe they have a good idea of what the reRE will show and want to stake off the territory early before too many get wind of it.
