From Europe today: "Mining stocks did well in the City, on speculation that the Chinese government might launch new efforts to stimulate its economy (although these rumours have not born fruit, yet anyway)."
So they are optimistic that things are so bad the Chinese will start to stimulate again. I don't personally think things are that bad in China, but they might stimulate just to get the economy at large moving. It would be nice.
We don't appear to be benefitting from that optimism:
