Please correct me if I'm wrong but Teck should be trying to make a deal as soon as they can. With markets and commodities at lows you would think the sooner they can make a decent offer the better. It's a great environment for a low bid ($3-5) compared to what a fall bid might look like after a potential market recovery in late summer where they may end up paying closer to $10.
I know Elmer also ultimately has the ball in his court when it comes to accepting an offer and $10 a share is a lot better than $5, but with such an unstable economy now AND moving forward he may want to play it safe and take a guaranteed bid compared to what may or may happen further down the road.
Some have suggest a "2 week window" here to pick up shares before something material may happen and I am starting to strongly believe that. Even if this does not come to fruition, anything under 1.20 is a steal considering what the finish line may look like...
