China's middle class potential = 1billion souls and growing. Let's not forget India, and other asian countries.

It's to the USA's advantage to ensure people panick to prevent a complete US$ meltdown, that we stop using the Dollar as the almighty currency and start buying gold and silver bars. The doom and gloom scenario has to be in the forefront of this plan and it's working...for now.
