I think ES has given Teck the deadline and it will not be delayed or late. That is the line drawn in the sand. Come up with a reasonable good offer by then or else. After that it is game on with other potential suiters.
Let's discuss this scenario. Say things are getting tense in the boardroom and negotiations have now taken an edge.
Many of us are firm believers that Teck was ready to back-in but many others of us are sure Teck is going to buy us out.
So let's assume that EE has a price in mind that Teck simply finds unpalatable. But EE won't bend.
Things break down and the unthinkable happens, Teck announces it is going to pass on purchasing Schaft Creek.
I have no doubt that there are other majors that will trip over themselves to get a piece of CUU, if not gobble it up completely.
However, even a minor delay in another company stepping forward will inevitably result in a substantial drop in share price.
How low could we go? Depends on how many true longs hold tight. There would be some who outright panic if Teck walked away.
So if we dropped to 80 cents, how many here could scratch together more coin to scoop up cheap shares? How many here would want to?
