24th of December was the last day for Canadian tax loss selling and I believe 26th was the last day for the US.

Perhaps he needed the money (TFSA for his whole family in Jan?) or could be a sign that he believes he can buy back in later at lower levels...

In any case, I wouldn't worry unless in a continuing trend.
