Many of us feel we will receive Teck shares as part of a buy-out. When these shares are issued, how many will be sold immediately into the market. I am guessing quite a few since we have been dragged out for a long time and some cash would be nice. Teck SP may drop in short term in regard to the sell-off, although it should go up long-term.

Many of us also have large capital gains if we sell! In order to beat the taxman and get cash out immediately but not drive down Teck SP, consider the following:

1. use of margin account to draw out cash without triggering capital gain (borrow against stock)

2. write/sell options on your Teck shares - guess you have to choose if it will be calls or puts. If I sell/write call options (on a covered basis) I can make money if Tech shares go down temporarily and still hold the Teck shares for the dividend and future appreciation. If I sell/write call options and Teck SP goes way up, I lose some of the upside but make a selling commission and an amount between market price at time and strike price. The idea is to at least get the Teck SP used in the buyout formula and hedge against a temporary drop in Teck SP.
