Just confirmed with an investment dealer in our office. brokerages issue the slips not individual companies. the brokerages hold everything in trust and are responsible for letting CRA know what is in registered accounts (rrsp and tfsa) and which are not.

Not your problem to let CRA know what is going on. brokerage has to do it.
