The quotes attributed to Don Lindsay come right out of Don's AME BC keynote speech at the lunch yesterday. Peter Kennedy (Stockhouse reporter) must have been recording it. Don is very bullish on China and copper, and very bullish on BC, although it was existing projects like Highland Valley Copper and Quintette that were mentioned (in addition to other coal projects like Fording). Didn't hear any hints about Schaft Creek but Don mentioned again (as in other speeches the last year) how important a safe political jurisdiction is. Of course this applies to Schaft Creek.
Don just got back from the World Economic Forum last week in Davos and had a sit down with Prime Ministers and Presidents from PNG, Mongolia, Zimbabwe, and one other country. About 10 big mining co.'s were there, and apparently they took the Mongolian leader to task and some of the others saying, look, we aren't going to invest in your countries if you keep nationalising and treating us badly. We have other places to invest.
Lot of talk at the AMEBC including mentions from Don yesterday and Monday (opening comments) about the need keep BC creating mining jobs and making the permitting more efficient. All sorts of industry leaders raising support to clearly communicate to the NDP that if they come into power provincially, they better not mess up the good thing we have going right now with mining. Very interesting - Don even said a few times that "we" have to do a much better job of building public support and consensus for the importance of mining. People don't realize how many minerals each Canadian uses every year (not to mention all the rest of our friends around the globe, especially those striving to become middle income). Should be interesting to see what kind of public mining campaigns come out shortly.
