Northwest Transmission Line Project Approved
The provincial government recently granted BC Hydro an environmental permit for its $400-million Northwest Transmission Line (NTL) project.
The proposed 344-kilometre high-voltage powerline could benefit many industrial and resource projects along the Hwy 37 corridor in northwestern BC, facilitate the development of a number of green power projects, and also bring a source of stable, low-cost power to communities in the region.
NovaGold's Galore Creek project, owned equally with Teck Resources, is west of Bob Quinn and will benefit from the transmission line since the project can build its own powerline to tie into the 287-kV NTL, bringing electric power to site. A pre-feasibility study for the Galore Creek project is expected to be completed in Q2-2011, providing capital cost estimates as well as a permitting, production and construction timelines.
