I have a hard time understanding how anyone puts a 'deadline' on a two (maybe 3) party negotiation for a multibillion dollar project. A mutual agreement could come fast or it could take a long time. One party to the negotiations can't say where or when the other party will meet its terms and vis versa.
Milestoles. Direction. Clarity. Something is needed. We have none of those things.
This could have been multi-phased (have some milestones). So for example, Teck might declare a backin of 75% a month ago. Then a month from now, a JV is established. Then a couple months from then, the remaining portion is bought out. Right now, we have nothing to look for. No news in sight, and this sector is news driven. Especially with the current macro outlook, we're dead money until a deal is done or we have something to speculate on. Something more than "Ya we're still doing something"
We could have been informed of where this is likely headed. We literally have no idea. Are they looking to earn in for more or less? Are they going to even use the Salazar Agreement or come up with something completely different? Are WE, CUU looking to do a JV now or are we still looking to sell our portion? None of this is clear. We have no direction. This is terrible leadership.
The two things above lead to clarity. We have none of that, and haven't had that for a while. We don't know WHAT we're doing, we don't know HOW LONG it will take. All the metal in the ground is still there, but it was there decades ago when they first explored it too. Without direction and milestones, it's just a bunch of rocks. You need both to make the rocks into money. They may have these things in THEIR minds, but they've given US absolutely nothing at all.
I'm still invested. Still looking for a favorable outcome. Still think the destination is good but the journey? Our pilot could send a message out over the PA about the turbulence we're going through.
