Freeport-McMoRan is trying to sell this producing copper mine in Chile.
They're getting some interest from Magris Resources. Magris is a private equity firm started by a former Barrick Gold exec.
Magris Resourcs was one of the group that was bidding on Las Bambas with Teck Resources.
Teck has recently said they would be interested in a currently producing copper mine.
Maybe Teck and Magris are looking at paying several $billion for 80% of Candelaria?
Freeport is struggling with Indonesia to get their copper out from their Grasberg mine. I'm not sure if this would make them more or less keen to sell Candelaria, but it has been on the market for awhile.
