I went back and looked at some recent projects that use in-situ leaching for copper.

For example, the Florence Copper project in Arizona costs 79 cents per pound of copper recovered. It has a 2.4 year payback period.

In situ mines are also quicker to get permitted and quicker to build. I think they say 18 months to permit in AZ and a year to build.
