Years ago I put together a formula to help me in my investment decisions, do I invest or not?
The first thing we need to admit is that investing in this space is incrediably risky, so risky you need to see a clear path to at least 5x your money back.
Julius Baring was an amazing gold guy, he use to take 10% of in ground value and divide it by the outstanding fully diluted share count. that gave him the price, roughly, of what a share was worth in a buy out. The 5x is mine, this sector is so risky you need five times your money back to make it worth the risk of investing.
Some argued that 10% was too high, depends. Good times like 2003-2005 it sure wasn't.
Today? Definately too high.
"Proven and Probable Reserve of 940.8 million tonnes grading 0.27% copper, 0.19 g/t gold, 0.018% molybdenum and 1.72 g/t silver; with contained metal of 5,611.7 million pounds of copper, 5.8 million ounces of gold, 363.5 million pounds of molybdenum and 51.7 million ounces of silver."
Theres $16 billion worth of just copper at todays spot. CUU owns 25% of that. 414,000,000 shares osfd.
25% of $16b = $4b
10% of $4b = $400m / 414m osfd = .96
CUU is trading at .105.
