It's looking like BHP is the odds-on favourite to buy this mine. Yay, because that leaves Teck short another option. I would think they're feeling a little cash strapped these days anyway.

Zaldivar is across the road from BHP's Escondida and used to be part of the same land holding. It might make it more cost-effective for BHP to run the mine than anyone else. Certainly more than Teck.

Apparently BHP wants to buy the whole mine instead of just 50%. I don't know if that makes it a more appealing offer, or a less appealing offer but essentially everything is for sale at the right price.
