Message: New Gov?

Well, the Alaskans are asking for an International Joint Commission to be set up to examine the mines in BC. Harper refused to participate in an IJC because he said we had a sovereign right to mine. Trudeau is a wild card, but if you ask me he's spineless and if the Americans really pressure him who knows? (Will he say no right to their face?)

Both the Americans and Canadians have to ask for an IJC and we are getting a lot of pressure after Mt. Polley. The Americans are worried about their salmon.

Schaft Creek should not have any problems because it really isn't attached to a fish-bearing river but the whole process could cause a huge delay and make BC less attractive.

As well, Trudeau has reiterated that he wants to formalize a moratorium on crude oil tanker traffic off the north coast of BC. This will effectively kill the Northern Gateway pipeline. He's also talking about increasing protection of the waters off the coast in general and it might have some sort of effect on getting minerals to market, though less so than oil.

The economy in general will be affected because he's going to run a huge deficit to stimulate things, or whatever. More social programs, more spending on science and the environment. It will likely hurt the youth of today most as they try to pay off the debt in about a decade when there are more people retired than working. But, hey, they voted for him.
