This is quite common.. People hire a lawyer who will write a letter at no cost. The company tells them to go pound sand. Said lawyer now informs plaintiff the clock is running now and this could take awhile with no guarantees. Plaintiff goes away. We used to do the settling thing but after a few instances realized people rarely take the risk. Unless of course there was clear fault.
