Pretty sure he didn't take more, maybe even less? Unless I understand wrong what you said.

You say went from 20mil to 21.66mil.

Well 20mil * 0.08 vs 21.66mil *0.05? Seems like those numbers don't add up to more. Id take more as well if the price dropped, same investment more of the PP which also got larger in share count.
