IF, Schaft Creek ever gets bought out by Teck, you can look to the way Teck structured its deal on QBII. They will not pay in shares.They would would pay us in cash and and de-risk thier investment by selling a percentage for more than what they paid.Thats how corporations work! 
Teck and it's team of lawyers will not care about you and how any deal will affect your tax implications.. If you wanted to avoid any such penalties you could have used your TFSA or RRSP.
