With the current structure, I think they have a good portion of the leg work already done (see below link).  They would probably announce a complete spinoff only the day of a sale.  I would not count on a warning prior.

I share your dream and do think it will happen.  Hoping that most of a deal happens with Teck shares and possibly some cash that would remain in the company for exploration.  In my opinion, at least 90-95% of the transaction value would be distributed to shareholders.
